We consider several factors when looking for what ideas to add to JMP. This includes what will have the greatest benefit to our customers based on scope, needs and current resources. Product ideas help us decide what features to work on next. Additionally, we often look to ideas for inspiration on how to add value to developments already in our pipeline or enhancements to new or existing features.

What inspired this wish list request?

The findings which are discussed in this post:

Time binning - how to change the Tick labels?

What is the improvement you would like to see?

  1. Please provide Ticks label settings (to move the grid between the labels and to add borders - such that users can create plots like this:
    hogi_0-1717916547808.png

  2. Please fix bug # 1 with Year and Calendar week:
    https://community.jmp.com/t5/Discussions/Time-binning-how-to-change-the-Tick-labels/m-p/762925/highl...
    At the moment: Date Increment(., "Week", 0) = 01Jan0000;
.. but it wold be better to get "missing" instead of "0"
    TS-00147884:
The developers agree this should return "Missing".
-> you don't have to vote for this one

  3. At the moment, Binning in Graph Builder uses Date Increment("week",0) to map dates to weeks
Please provide an option to specify the first day [Sunday or Monday]

  4. At the moment, with weekly binning, Graph builder bins by week, but still shows "dates day/month" on the axis
Provide an easy and robust way to show weeks on the axis, especially
    - in combination with nesting
    - ISO weeks ( https://community.jmp.com/t5/Discussions/Time-binning-how-to-change-the-Tick-labels/m-p/762929/highl... , TS-00147884)

Why is this idea important?

With the additional features and after removal of the bugs, more people will use the cool functionality of Binning and Nesting.

The in-between labels are not just useful for dates:

they could also facilitate the understanding of Heatmap plots in general - which have continuous values on the axis.

we have many discussions, if the heatmap cell on the right or on the left of the x axis label is the right one.

(just) the experienced JMP user knows:
it's the cell on the right:

The issue will fade away - with the introduction of 🙏 Column Property: Inclusive Values there will be  more chances to use nominal values instead of continuous ones.
