Currently, if a covariate is included in Custom Design, there is no longer an option to have random blocks. This would be a nice feature to add. You can have fixed blocks right now, or you have to do something creative where you add in a fake hard-to-change factor to create a split-plot design, but modify your model. Having the random blocks option would seem most natural for those situations.
