At one of ADM’s EMEA oilseeds plants, the operations team faced a familiar but complex question: how much by-product is just right? Adding by-product increases the commercial value of the product, but only up to the point where process constraints (especially product moisture) start to push back. Finding that balance required both a structured approach and powerful analytics.

Using JMP Pro within the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework, the Manufacturing Analytics & Transformation and Operations teams joined forces to turn historical process data into actionable insights. A custom-built AVEVA/OSISoft PI add-in enabled direct data import from the PI Historian into JMP, making data exploration, visualization, and statistical analysis fast and intuitive. Through JMP’s modeling capabilities, the team identified key variables, quantified the relationship between by-product dosage and moisture, and revealed the main sources of process variability.

The next phase takes these insights from offline analysis to real-time application. By integrating the predictive models into plant operations through JMP Live, the team is building interactive dashboards for continuous monitoring, enabling operators to make proactive, data-driven adjustments on the fly.

This project demonstrates how combining JMP Pro’s analytical depth with JMP Live’s real-time collaboration can transform manufacturing challenges into opportunities driving digital transformation, improving consistency, and maximizing value one data point at a time.
