Connecting to a data source is the first step in any analysis. But what if you don't know how to make the connection (and no one else does either)? This paper describes how we've used JMP to change our development chemists' and engineers' viewpoint of our process from the theoretical (i.e., "The process is supposed to work this way") to the practical (i.e., "Let us pull some data and see what is actually happening in the plant"). We can now think of a question and answer it in near real time.

We discuss how we went from Excel files generated by our process engineers to an ODBC connection to our Aspen IP.21 historians, and finally, to a REST API connection to our historians. Along this seven-year journey, we've had to overcome many obstacles. But through the use of JSL and much help from a team of experts (which included JMP associates, some of your fellow attendees of JMP Discovery, and users in the JMP Community), we successfully created tools that give us access to all of our batch data. Queries that took weeks now take seconds. The good news is that JMP 19 will make it even easier to make these critical connections.

I reveal all of my secrets on how to connect JMP to Aspen in an effort to help you better understand the process of how to solve problems that were previously thought to be unsolveable.
