Which Model When?: A Guide to Knowing Your Options

Choosing a statistical model can feel overwhelming, especially when multiple options appear to “work.” This workshop provides a practical framework for selecting models based on the structure of your data, the question you’re trying to answer, and the decisions you need to make. Through applied examples, we compare common modeling approaches, discuss tradeoffs and assumptions, and focus on interpretation and communication – not just mathematical details. The goal is to help you feel more confident and intentional when modeling real-world data. We cover many model classes, including the JMP and JMP Pro options available from Fit Model, as well as those from the Predictive Modeling, Specialized Modeling, Screening, Multivariate Methods, and Clustering menus.

Workshops are included in the price of your conference registration. Space is limited, so these sessions must be selected during your conference registration to confirm your participation.

Please note: This workshop primarily uses JMP but shows some (minimal) JMP Pro features. We can provide access to a virtual lab to use on your laptop if you want to try these features but don’t have JMP Pro installed at the time of the workshop.
