Creating a control chart using JMP (Japanese)

Published on ‎12-09-2024 04:50 PM by Staff | Updated on ‎01-09-2025 06:46 PM

JMP has had extensive functionality for drawing control charts since previous versions, and this functionality has been expanded in recent version upgrades.

This video series explains the basic operations for creating control charts in JMP, as well as the characteristics and creation methods of control charts for variable values and control charts for attribute values.

You can try out the operations in this video using JMP sample data.

You can find the sample data by selecting Help > Samples Index from the JMP menu bar and searching for the sample data name.

*This video uses the latest version (JMP 18.0.1) at the time of creating the video.

Part 1. Basic operations for creating control charts in JMP

Section 1. Two ways to create control charts in JMP (8 minutes 46 seconds)

There are two ways to create a control chart in JMP:

  1. Using the Control Chart Builder
  2. Select the control chart you want to create from the menu.

We will explain the operation methods and features of these two.

Section 2. Control Chart Testing and Option Settings (10 minutes 25 seconds)

This section explains how to apply rules to detect special trends in control charts using the Western Electric Rule (WER), and how to set up the following control charts.

  • Creating an XBar-S Control Chart
  • Displaying limits on the control chart
  • Save Summary
  • Set control limits (right click, column properties)

Part 2. Control charts for variables (11 minutes 56 seconds)

We will explain the following control charts used for continuous data (quantitative data).

  • Individual Measurements and Moving Range (IMR) Control Chart
  • Levey Jennings control chart (control limits calculated using the usual standard deviation as σ)
  • Run Chart
  • Three-way control chart (control chart considering intragroup and intergroup variation)

Part 3. Control Charts for Attributes (16 minutes 25 seconds)

We will explain the following control charts used for discrete data (count data). Control charts for count values are mainly used for data such as the number of defective items and occurrence frequency.

Part 4. CUSUM (cumulative sum) control chart, EWMA control chart (10 minutes 24 seconds)

The CUSUM control chart and EWMA control chart are control charts that detect small shifts in a process. They are effective in detecting process abnormalities at an early stage, and may be able to detect shifts that cannot be detected by the Xbar control chart or IMR control chart.

CUSUM control chart : A control chart that plots the cumulative sum of deviations of subgroup means from the target value.

EWMA control chart : Exponentially weighted moving average control chart (uses a moving average with weighting given to the most recent observations)

Part 5. Model-Based Multivariate Control Charts (7 minutes 37 seconds)

Multivariate control charts allow you to monitor multiple process parameters simultaneously. In JMP, the Model-Based Multivariate Control Charts platform allows you to create control charts based on principal component analysis or PLS regression models, and allows you to interactively explore the causes of out-of-control conditions.

Reference and supplementary matters

In relation to the control charts for quantitative values in Part 2, a control chart called "Short-term operation control chart" has been added to JMP 18, which is effective for process management when making multiple products on the same equipment.
