Using Geographic Maps

See how to:

  • Add map shapes to analyses built using Graph Builder using map shape files included in JMP and JMP Pro
  • Add zip code maps available from the JMP File exchange
  • Customize the appearance of the map and selectively identify and label regions of interest

See how to:

  • Create Graph Builder and Bubble Plot background maps using longitudinal and latitudinal data obtained using the Geocoding Place Names Add-In
  • Create a heat map overlay to show density of reported blocked driveways
  • Create a Bubble Plot that animates blocked driveways by the time of day
  • Save Bubble Plot as interactive html for viewing interactively by people who do not have JMP

See how to:

  • Add map shapes to JMP graphs using public shape files
  • Understand the  purpose of .shp and .dbf files needed to use map shapes
  • Easily edit the data table, name files and store files in the correct directory

See how to:

  • Learn which files are needed for custom map shapes
  • Create and edit files and shapes
  • Assign column properties
  • Save custom map files in your JMP directory
  • Use the Custom Map Creator Add-In

.shp files are located:

  • On Windows C:\Program Files\SAS\JMP\version_number\Samples\Import Data
  • On Mac: /Library/Application Support/JMP/version_number/Samples/Import Data

Note:  for JMP PRO, use directory name JMPPRO.  If you cannot see the file, you might need to change the file type to All Files.

If you saved custom map files when using a previous version of JMP, for example JMP 14, you should move the files to the directory for your current version of JMP or JMP Pro:

  • On Windows C:\Program Files\SAS\JMP\15\Maps
  • On Mac: /Library/Application Support/JMP/15/Maps
  • On Windows C:\Program Files\SAS\JMPPRO\15\Maps
  • On Mac: /Library/Application Support/JMPPRO/15/Maps
