Importing and Preparing Excel Data for Use in JMP

Published on ‎11-19-2025 02:41 PM by Community Manager Community Manager | Updated on ‎11-19-2025 03:29 PM

JMP easily imports Excel spreadsheets into JMP tables. JMP data tables store data and user-specified information that enables graphical analysis and reporting far beyond what Excel can provide.

JMP is oriented around variables, represented by columns. Each data column is a cohesive collection of values for each variable. These values share the same meaning and, therefore, the same format and other metadata that the user supplies. Each row represents a cohesive collection of values that represent an observation that share row attributes that the user supplies.

See how to seamlessly import and work with Microsoft Excel data in JMP to:

  • Open Excel files directly in JMP.
  • Adjust import settings, such as selecting specific worksheets, defining column headers, and handling merged cells or empty rows.
  • Use transfer data from Excel to JMP for analysis.
  • Verify and modify data types (e.g., Continuous or Nominal) to ensure accurate analysis.
  • Add row attributes to facilitate analysis and graphical reports.
  • Save and reuse import settings for future data imports.

This webinar covers: Excel Import Wizard, JMP Excel Add-In, column properties and row states.
