It would be helpful to be able to identify column types (numeric, character) or column format when importing Excel files. There can be some columns where you want to force them to character (i.e. serial numbers that begin with a 0) or a column which is a date time, and you want it to appear only as a date. These features are available for CSV files, but not Excel files, so it seems like something that could easily be applied.
