Excel Import force column type

Yes, I appreciate that JMP respects what is in Excel's "Format Cells" screen. Unfortunately, some people (and some machines that create Excel files of data) submit formatting requests that are simply wrong. I would like some way to override Excel when a user has done something stupid like format a column of letters as numeric.

 

As it stands I have to tell users to collect the data and let the machine create the Excel file, then open Excel and fix the file, then go to JMP. I would rather my users skip Excel so they aren't tempted to assume Excel could do their analysis, too. The consequence is that I am going to be asked to write a VBA macro to do the analysis instead so the users don't have to use two separate programs to make an analysis.

 

And no, the machine can't create a CSV file. It writes a multi-tabbed Excel.
