Hear from noted science authors, researchers and statisticians

One of my favorite parts of Discovery Summit is hearing from well-known experts in the fields of statistics, technology and innovation. I’m no statistician, but I always find wisdom, inspiration and humor in the keynote talks.

This year in St. Louis, we’ll have the chance to hear from and meet an exciting lineup of speakers.

John Sall, SAS co-founder and Executive Vice President, is the lead developer for JMP. He will talk about ghost data, emphasizing why it’s important to develop skills for handling data that isn’t really there.

Christine Anderson-Cook, Los Alamos National Laboratory Research Scientist, has written extensively on decision making with multiple, often competing, objectives. She’ll give suggestions for objectively considering tradeoffs, resulting in better decisions.

Victor Strecher, Professor and Director for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship at University of Michigan School of Public Health and Medical School, wrote Life on Purpose. The book examines the science and philosophy of purpose in life, and ways to develop and align with one’s purpose. He’ll talk about integrating predictive modeling, big data and mobile technology for health and well-being.

Richard Wiseman, Professor of the Public Understanding of Psychology at University of Hertfordshire, has been described by Scientific American as “…the most interesting and innovative experimental psychologist in the world today.” He wrote The Luck Factor, which investigates the measureable habits of lucky and unlucky people. He’ll share his research on scientifically proven ways to attract good fortune.

Attendees will receive Strecher’s Life on Purpose and Wiseman’s 101 Bets You Will Always Win. Be sure you schedule your flight for after the conclusion of the conference so that you don’t miss the chance to get these books and have them signed by the authors.
