A Demo on Visualization with Bubble Plots in JMP

Bubble Plots in JMP are a good way to analyze and visualize the relationship between three or more variables, especially if you want to analyze over time or over any other continuous variable.

JMP Systems Engineer Sam Gardner gave a brief demo (duration: 04:19 | opens in a new window) using Bubble Plots to analyze and look at trends in violent crimes and property crimes for different states over several years. He shows how to set up the analysis and how to make changes on the fly, including how to:

  • Graphically split components within each group or combine like components into one group (such as states and region).
  • Animate the analysis smoothly over time.
  • Change animation speed.
  • Step through periods of time.
  • Add and remove labels.
  • Change circle size.
  • Turn on trail lines or bubbles to capture the movement through time.
