comparing two columns with text for overlaping words

I have to check whether one column with text entails words from another column with text.

For example: Col. 1 entails "I saw a big apple.", Col. 2 entails "Apples are the best fruits."

I want to extract the information, that both columns chaired the word apple, although the first column entails it in the singular and the second in the plural form.

Any ideas?

Regular Expressions are probably your best starting point.  JMP has a fully featured RegEx function.  I would search the web for Regular Expression samples of doing the scans you specified.
