I have measured 15 samples on two days. 4 measurements on day1 and 8 on day2. Now I want to split the data on 2 columns, Day1 and Day2.

The simplified data looks like this:

Sample | Day | Result |
---|---|---|

A | 1 | 0.125 |

A | 2 | 0.135 |

A | 2 | 0.145 |

B | 1 | 0.258 |

B | 2 | 0.256 |

I want the table to look something like this:

Sample | Day1 | Day2 |
---|---|---|

A | 0.125 | 0.135 |

A | 0.145 | |

B | 0.258 | 0.256 |

Instead I get this:

Sample | Day1 | Day2 |
---|---|---|

A | 0.125 | 0.135 |

B | 0.158 | 0.145 |

B | * | 0.256 |

So B in row 2 is connected to both an A and a B value...

If I group by Sample it looks like this:

Sample | Day1 | Day2 |
---|---|---|

A | 0.125 | 0.145 |

B | 0.258 | 0.256 |

The numbers are correctly assigned to samples and days but I lost row 2 data from the original table.

Is my thinking wrong?

Is there a way to do this?

JMP needs another piece of information to make the split the "right" way as is obvious to us. I think you will find that if you add in a column for the measurement number ("rep") then split on day and then group by the sample and the rep you will get what you are looking for.
