Value Ordering by a column NOT in a boxplot

Aug 25, 2010 1:55 PM

I'm familliar with value ordering and how it works. However, what if I want to order the x compoenent of a boxplot according to some other column such a "date" automatically? This example is simple enough to do manually, but I typically work with datasets of 100,000+

Say i was plotting Y:Speed (numeric,continuous) vs. X:Car(character, nominal)

Speed

60

55

80

70

Car

Maxima

Altima

GTR

Pathfinder

Date

8/7

8/8

8/9

8/10

If this plotted normally the x-axis will be ordered (Altima, GTR, Maxima, Pathfinder). However, I would like it ordered it by "Date: (Maxima, Altima, GTR, Pathfinder) while still using "Car" on the x-axis.

Does anyone understand my issue? Its really simple. thanks for the help!

I think this script may do what you want.

Re: Value Ordering by a column NOT in a boxplot

Thank you so much. I haven't even tried it yet, but just by looking at the script I think it will work. I prevoiusly tried sorting the table as a fix. I guess I was on the right track. the foreachrow statement it what i was missing.

Thanks!

Thanks!

MS, can you post your scrpit again? your previous post seems to be corrupted. The "for each row" statement dissappeared for some reason

Re: Value Ordering by a column NOT in a boxplot

There were some forum issues with formatted code earlier in the day but they should be fixed by now. I am seeing this statement:

For Each Row( CarList[Row()] = Column( "Car" )[] );

Is this what you see as missing?
