MODE CHOICE DESIGN

Hi there,

I'm designing a survey where people need to choose one of four modes (C, T, U, E) each one have different attributes such as fare, waiting time, access time, travel time, transfer time and weather,  but for some modes like car,  the do not have waiting time or transfer time e.g:

  • Mode c:
    • travel time: 3  variation levels: 10, 40, 65 (high, mid, low)
    • no access time
    • no waiting time
    • no transfer time
    • no fare
    • weather: 2 variation levels (good or bad)
  • Mode T:
    • travel time: 3  variation levels: 10, 55, 85 (high, mid, low)
    • access time: 3 levels: 0, 3, 5 (high, mid, low)
    • waiting time3  variation levels: 0, 5, 8 (high, mid, low)
    • transfer time: 3 variation levels (0, 8, 15)(high, mid, low)
    • fare:  3 variation levels ($8, 12, 17) (high, mid, low)
    • weather:  2 variation levels (good or bad)
  • Mode U:
    • travel time: 3  variation levels: 25, 45, 65 (high, mid, low)
    • no access time
    • waiting time3  variation levels: 0, 5, 8 (high, mid, low)
    • no transfer time
    • fare:  3 variation levels ($20, $35, $65) (high, mid, low)
    • weather:  2 variation levels (good or bad)

 Mode E:

  • travel time: 3  variation levels: 25, 45, 65 (high, mid, low)
  • no access time
  • waiting time3  variation levels: 0, 5, 8 (high, mid, low)
  • no transfer time
  • fare:  3 variation levels ($40, $85, $129) (high, mid, low)
  • weather:  2 variation levels (good or bad) (high, mid, low)

Also I would like the design to be no more than 6 choice sets per survey and, if possible, have 2 surveys.

So, for example, a survey would look somehting like this:

Question 1

Mode C:      Travel time, Fare, Weather

Mode T: Waiting time, Access time, travel time, transfer time, weather.

Mode U: Waiting time, travel time, weather.

Mode E: Waiting time, Access time, travel time, transfer time, weather.

Question 2

Mode C: Travel time, Fare, Weather

Mode T: Waiting time, Access time, travel time, transfer time, weather.

Mode U: Waiting time, travel time, weather.

Mode E: Waiting time, Access time, travel time, transfer time, weather.

Question 3

Mode C: Travel time, Fare, Weather

Mode T: Waiting time, Access time, travel time, transfer time, weather.

Mode U: Waiting time, travel time, weather.

Mode E: Waiting time, Access time, travel time, transfer time, weather.

It would be great to have around 10 versions of the surey. If that's the case, I expect to have about 100 respondents per survey.

Question 9

__________________________________________________________________

saw one post that was really similar but the seemed to be using custume design. https://community.jmp.com/t5/Discussions/Choice-DOE-with-alternative-specific-factors-and-factors-th...

Is there any way to do this in JMP? how? Is there a way not to use every attribute on each mode, do i need to do custumize desing or do I have anyother options?

Thanks a lot,

Daniela

Re: MODE CHOICE DESIGN

While I haven't tried to build your exact design in JMP, the general hub for choice designs delivered via a survey kind of approach is in the JMP Choice Design platform to create the design. Here's the link to the JMP online documentation landing page for this type of experimental design:

https://www.jmp.com/support/help/14/choice-designs.shtml

The Choice Design platform has undergone some substantial improvements in the last couple versions of JMP so depending on which version you are running, what you see in version 14 may not be doable in earlier versions. Hope this helps.
