JMP 18 crushes

Hello,

sometimes it happens that JMP 18 crushes and if I have not previously saved my files I loose everything.

Is it possible to recover unsaved files?

Thank you

BR

Re: JMP 18 crushes

Sometimes JMP will ask you to load some files. You could potentially ask JMP support if JMP saves some temporary files from time to time and where to access those.

You can also consider enabling Autosave from JMP Preferences.

Re: JMP 18 crushes

In most cases, JMP doesn’t actually “crash”; it “freezes” — and usually recovers after a few hours.

Crash: No JMP window visible anymore
Freeze: The JMP window is present but not responding.

When JMP crashes, in many cases there will be an error message before JMP closes all windows. In addition, the next time you start the application, a dialog will appear asking if you’d like to submit logs to JMP Support. Typically, these crashes are addressed in the next JMP release (I’ve seen dozens of successful fixes, specially during beta phase).

So, instead of living with the crashes, it's in your hand to get rid of them ...

Freezing issues are different: they can sometimes be reproduced and traced to a specific root cause.
These problems are not resolved immediately. Known examples include:

Speed up Tables/Update

Tiny Traps in Jmp and JSL
Kill process without killing JMP

Re: JMP 18 crushes

I have seen the crash w/o log submission on a few items recently (both JMP 18 and 19) and in those crashes the window just disappeared - like it never existed.

You are right that JMP is getting better about recognizing a crash and then reopening to submit logs, but it feels intermitant on when its able to help me recover lost work. I'm not sure how that code works. I feel I am more surprised when it offers to load 'saved' work than not surprised when I have to start fresh.

Thankfully I don't have freezes that often (outside of the wish list item you noted where it's just stuck in a loop I can't get out of).
