How to many identical items in Reliability Block Diagram?

Hello, Does anybody know if there is an easier way to grab the library item, 100 identical items in series or parallel in RBD? Thanks in advance!

Re: How to add many identical library items in Reliability Block Diagram?

It would have been much easier if you see what I do. Here is a series of screenshots and descriptions for each step. You will still rely on copy and paste, but not that miserable. And you don't have to manually link them. I am able to create the desired diagram under two minutes.

It may take some trial and error for you to get used to the operations. But after you get to know how the software behaves, you should catch up with me in no time.

=======================

Add the first block. Select it. Right click. Copy it.

Right click somewhere lower than the first block. Paste.

The following is after the paste.

Select both blocks. Right click. Choose Copy.

Put mouse somewhere lower than the second block. Right Click. Choose Paste.

Point mouse somewhere lower than the 4th block, right click, choose Paste.

Repeat the Paste step, but gradually lower mouse position, until you have 10 blocks, like the following screenshot shows.

Now select all 10 blocks, right click, choose Copy.

Move the mouse a little right to the first block, right click, choose Paste.

This is what you should get after the last step.

Jeff_Perkinson_9-1596069190318.png

Now move mouse a little bit right to the first block in the second column, right click, choose Paste.

The following is what you should get.

Jeff_Perkinson_11-1596069190319.png

Repeat the paste step, but with mouse gradually moving to the right, until you have 10 columns of blocks. Like the following.

Jeff_Perkinson_12-1596069190319.png

Now right click any where in the empty area of the diagram, choose “Create Series Diagram”.

Jeff_Perkinson_13-1596069190319.png

And the following is the result: a series of 100 subsystems.

Re: How to many identical items in Reliability Block Diagram?

Do you mean that you want to create a series or parallel diagram (or partial diagram) of 100 identical items?

If it is 100 Basic items, consider using 1 Series with N=100 or 1 Parallel with N=100.

If it is 100 Series with N=k, to form a series diagram, consider using 1 Series with N=100*k items.

If it is 100 Parallel with N=k, to form a parallel diagram, consider using 1 Parallel with N=100*k items.

If it is a series of Parallel items, or vice verse, it depends. If the entire diagram is a series or parallel of 100 identical items, start with an empty diagram, put in your first block, then copy-paste the block to produce 100 identical blocks. So copy one to get two, copy two to get four, ... For 100, it can be done in 7 steps or so. Then right click in the diagram, choose "Create Series Diagram" or "Create Parallel Diagram" from the popup menu.

For other arbitrary situations, there are no obvious tricks.

For other arbitrary situations, here is what I can think of.
Create your series of Parallel items or parallel of Series items as a sub-system, using the approach that I described. Then use the sub-system in your bigger diagram.

Re: How to add many identical library items in Reliability Block Diagram?

@peng_liu Thanks for the reply. My case is 100 series of K out of N subsystems. I created k out of N subsystem in the library item. I can't figure out using the series block to make 100 of the k out of N subsystems in series. I hope I don't have to copy paste 100 of the subsystems and connect them one by one. Please see the attached  script.

Thanks, ZF

Awesome! I missed the right the last step "Right click - create series diagram". Thanks for the help!
