3D plot

I was hoping to transpose a 3d scatter plot so that the arc shaped data falls flat into the x-y plane. The data, since its a x-section of point cloud spatial data, really is almost entirely in one plane, so I'm hoping to get the best fit in 2D and not in 3D.

Any ideas?

You could use principal components analysis to create 2 orthogonal vectors that define the coordinates of the two dimensional plane and then model in the new coordinate system or use the definitions of those vectors to transform your data
