“Data viz” is both a buzzword and a broad term; it encompasses so much, yet says so little. This conversation will go much deeper than surface-level graphs, as it explores the tension between presentation graphics and every aspect of discovery graphics, which encompasses data cleaning, pattern identification, confirmation of key findings, and communicating and exploiting new understanding. It will address the power of interactive graphs. It will look at nonstandard visualizations. It will demonstrate how to communicate with statistically illiterate audiences.
