Within Abbott Diabetes Care, experienced teams utilize multiple highly specialized software applications to analyze large volumes of data. Analysts track trends; maximize efficiencies by querying a database; extract data; and present it in a logical, meaningful way. An expanding database and increasing numbers of non-specialized users required a simpler way to conduct these analyses. JMP offered the solution. Creating a direct link between our database and JMP, we bypassed third party software to obtain the raw data set and immediately begin manipulation. Saving database queries and data manipulation steps in JMP Scripting Language (JSL) scripts enabled rapid data extraction and manipulation. Linking saved scripts to button boxes allowed these actions to be completed at the click of a single button. We designed a top-level user interface, incorporating multiple button boxes, enabling users to extract, manipulate and present meaningful data with minimal input or experience. This evolved into a multiplot interactive dashboard for real-time analysis of data. A subsequent release of JMP implemented many of these features, further simplifying our analytical process. JMP has reduced analysis time from hours to minutes. All work was funded by, and the authors are employees of, Abbott Diabetes Care.
