Abstract
As we develop and transfer processes into manufacturing, scientists and engineers perform studies iteratively and develop process and product understanding. We face a huge challenge to manage complexity and retain knowledge process understanding evolves. This challenge is exacerbated in organizations with high turnover of personnel.
In academia, the same issues exist. To help teams or organizations retain insights from prior studies, we need to address several problems. How can we:
- Help teams compare and contrast the efficiency and effectiveness of historical experimentation?
- Show what assumptions were made and identify knowledge gaps?
- Help teams gain additional insight from disconnected tabulated data sets and free text?
- Discover what we need to know when it’s not always clear?
This presentation will illustrate how new functionality in JMP 13 (e.g., Query Builder, Dashboard Builder and Text Explorer) can help us build a more accessible, structured “organizational memory” of both observational and experimentally derived data. We now use this to help the current De Montfort University Quality by Design M.Sc. students compare their own experimental plans with studies carried out previously. The students use prior knowledge to generate new ideas and actionable decisions to drive more effective and efficient experimentation.
