Airbus manufacturing engineering teams regularly analyze measured deviations in manufacturing processes to ensure process and product quality. This analysis, called Industrial Geometrical Capability Assessment (IGCA), is a key enabler to support co-design with the design office. It involves grouping data into clusters and evaluating them over specific time periods. However, performing these assessments can be technically complex, time-consuming, and inconsistent across different sites due to varying methods and tools.

To address this, Airbus and Ippon Innovation developed a custom JMP extension that automates and standardizes IGCA, while remaining flexible and statistically robust. The tool allows users to easily import data (from the Airbus data lake or text files), automatically organizing it into clusters, while still allowing users to refine them. It helps identify the probability distribution of each cluster, ensuring that capability and IGC results are calculated accurately according to the data’s behavior. Users can also select stable time periods directly from the dashboard, refining the analysis to focus on selected data. Once the analysis is complete, the results are exported to an Airbus Manufacturing Capability Database (MCDb), preserving insights for future use.

By providing a standardized, user-friendly, and statistically robust solution, this extension helps Airbus teams work more efficiently, consistently, and confidently in evaluating manufacturing capabilities.
