Correcting Common Misconceptions About Optimal Experiment Design

The idea of generating experiment designs that are mathematically optimal has been around for more than half a century. It is natural for advocates of older methods to attack any new paradigm, so it is not surprising that there has been backlash against problem solving using optimal design. Many of the early criticisms of optimal experiment design have proven to be unfounded. Still, an untruth that is often repeated is difficult to distinguish from fact. In this talk I will enumerate the most common misconceptions about optimal experiment design. I will provide examples that demonstrate the efficacy of optimal design.
