how to use table variables in column formula

Can someone tell me how I'm supposed to use table variables in the formula editor? Say I have a variable x with value 3, I open the editor and create a column with value 2*x. In the editor the preview nicely shows that this would return values of 6 for the entire column. However, after applying it this is not the actual result but I'm getting a Name unresolved error instead.

This is not intuitive at all. I have been able to get it to work in the past but every time I'm struggling again.

Additionally it would be nice to just have a list of the columns and table variables to pick from while in the formula editor.

Maybe we are using different JMP version (I'm using JMP16.2) but I do see both column and table variable selection in formula editor

with your data

Using JMP > Create Formulas in JMP > Refer to Data Table Values in Formulas (jmp.com)

thanks for the reply, for some reason this panel was completely hidden for me. When I click on the table variable to create the formula it actually works.

To me it looks like it might be collapse. This is my window:

I can drag the line between functions and columns and it will hide column selection

but I can drag it back from the left line where column selection should be. You can also use red triangle next to formula selections and reset the panel layout
