I am doing a fit Y by X using by variable (3 levels). I then add a legend by a nominal variable. Add a local data filter to select the batches of interest. This works as expected and desired. As select various batches the graph updates including the legend.

However only for the first subgraph, to do the others I need to create a local data filter for each of the others. The workflow then requires me to select the correct batches in each local filter.

This is part I would like to streamline for ease and reduce the chance of error in batch selection.

I have tried to create a global data filter and that half works. The correct data is shown in each subgraph, however the legends do not auto update and I need to remove and reset them. This reduces selection error but at the price of more manual interaction.

Is it possible to create a single local data filter that addresses all the subgraphs in a window that will also take advantage of the legend updating when selection is changed?

What version of JMP are you using, and do you have multiple-X/Y columns in addition to the By-role? A few general comments on why these questions help to answer:

Starting in JMP 18, most By-groups include a group-level outline for actions across all levels. If you add the Local Data Filter from this outline, the filter will apply to all by-levels.

If you have multiple-Y or multiple-X, you will have a top-level outline for each Fit Group. Through scripting, or with Dashboard Builder, you can separately add a Local Data Filter that will apply across all of the groups. In the Scripting Index, look for Data Filter Context Box for an example of this.

For the global data filter update, the solution would be to enable Automatic Recalc (platform menu > Redo > Automatic Recalc). When a Local Data Filter is applied, this setting is activated automatically. For global filters it may need to be turned on explicitly, depending on the platform defaults.

as @danschikore pointed out, it matters which Red Triangle you click on. Here are some pictures that might help clarify.

Click here and it will apply to the whole report:

Click here and it will only apply to that By-Group:

By the way, the Global Data Filter also allows the legends to auto-update, as long as you select "Show" and "Include". (At least in JMP 19 this works for me)

The client supplied system was running version 17. I have version 19 on my personal business machine and there it works as you described. I am working with client IT to get that version upgraded.
