Using JMP 16 to build a predictive model

Hi everyone,

I am a PhD student. One of my research plans is to build a predictive model for erosion rate. Erosion rate is the dependent variable and (the impact angle, impact velocity, solid content, material hardness, and particle diameter) are the independent variables. I just installed JMP 16, and I do not have that much experience with it. I am asking if it is possible to use this software to develop the required model. I need all the help, advice, and support I can get from you. Thank you for your time and support.

Welcome to the JMP Community

JMP is an excellent tool for the building of Predictive Models.

I suggest that you start by clicking on the Learn JMP icon at the top of this page and then go through the Getting Started selection. Then you can move to the Predictive Modeling and Machine Learning selection.

Other Community members may also have more specific thoughts on what tutorial/documents to get you up to speed on analyzing your data.

Thank you so much for your warm welcome and guidance!

I appreciate the direction to start with the Learn JMP icon and the Getting Started section. I'll definitely explore the Predictive Modeling and Machine Learning resources as well.

I have a follow-up question: Given my research focus on building a predictive model for erosion rate, do you think JMP 16 will suffice, or would I need JMP Pro for more advanced capabilities?

As you read and learn, you will clearly see the analyses and functions that require JMP Pro. That should help you make the decision on whether or not you need JMP Pro.

Hi @AliAl-Darraji,

If you are studying at a degree-providing academic institution, you can check if you have access to JMP Student Edition which has the functionalities of JMP Pro for you to try.

I would also recommend you look at the following videos that give guidance on modelling data with different challenges such as correlated data, model screening and specifying and fitting models.
