txt import - point and comma ?

MultiFileImport (MFI())
independent of the settings in the operating system and the settings in the preferences,
text files with point as decimal separator can be imported, files with comma can't.

there are several settings in JMP that control whether txt files can be imported or not.
This is how it looks on my Win / JMP18.1.1 system:

(to make it easier to read I put the symbols for comma and point on top of each other)

Some findings:

There are some combinations where it's simultaneously possible to import txt files
with comma AND point as decimal separator : )
No need to adjust the settings.
For txt files with point as decimal separator - in general it's possible to import them.
... with one exception: , the combination of
1) English, Spanish ... display language (German is fine)
2) JMP locale settings and
3) decimal separator: comma
If JMP displays data with comma as decimal separator, it's also possible to import such data:

... just activate use regional settings in the preferences:
An additional rule can be derived from this graph (top half):
When JMP displays data with point as decimal separator it's not possible to import txt files with comma separator.
Just check your settings and compare with this overview. How about other languages ... does this rule hold in general?

I'm also running into issues related to this: I regularly have to import a huge amount of files with comma as decimal separator and I use the great MultiFileImport option in JMP for this. But: MultiFileImport imports the corresponding columns as strings, so I am often at risk of running out of memory while importing the files. Obviously there are workarounds to solve this problems, but if it would be possible to specify comma as decimal separator in MultiFileImport, this would make life much easier!
